I'm really competitive and I really gave our guys a hard time when making turnovers. It's almost embarrassing thinking about it now. During the off season our team was debating splitting up and everyone going in each others new directions. I take complete blame, I think it was my attitude that really created tension between our team mates. I just want to win and when the losses start racking up, it can get really frustrating. Basically I was being a total jackass. <---- that's hard to admit.
Before last nights game I spoke to each team mate of mine and let them know that earlier in the week I was playing basketball at a park near my house and was noticing a guy on the other team yelling at his own teammates for making mistakes and it looked so wrong and uncool. That guy was a reflection of me. That hurt. That opened up my eyes. I am going to change and not be that same jack ass this season. Nothing good comes out of riding anyone in a negative way.
So we played a team last night that we match up well against, but a few team mates didn't show up, so it was basically 5 on 4. I had a great time playing. We lost badly but everyone really played thier hearts out. One of our teams from last year left the team and already there's an improvement. I believe he didn't play well with us on our team. He was sort of a ball hog, so his absence really made everything more fluid bewteen all of us still on the team.
The firs thalf was close but we got blown out i nthe second half. We have some great great potential right now. But the main thing last night was how good it felt not to yell or get on my team mates for making silly turnovers. I actually got a high from being positive and encouraging. It is hard to get rid of bad habits but, the bottom line is, I love these guys so much that if I had to deciede between ball and them, I'd choose them. And I really really really really love basketball more than anything (after my wife of course.) It's abotu who I am playing with and having fun, not about winning. But that would be nice too. : )
Another reason is the fact that all my coworkers and friends play golf, so I figured, enough with the neigh-saying and just give it a try. I played golf on my computer so at least I was slightly familiar with the hierarchy of club usage. So I decided to go to the driving range and at least check out if I can get the hang of it.
Long story short, I went to the driving range with my best friend Rich and I fell completely in awe of the sport. I had a lot of fun and it opened my eyes to a new obsession. Yeah, I got bit by the bug. SO I am now taking lessons to get my form right because I hear a lot of people spending years wasted trying to find the right technique on their own. I started my lessons 3 weeks ago and I am having an absolutely great time learning something new. I definitely give it more respect now that I understand just how much goes into each swing. I will probably hit the range and spend a few months building confidence in my swing, and then I'll give it a try on a course.
Wish me luck and I will keep you posted on that.
: )
man, I am really behind, I'll put some photos up soon too!
